CARS, EMISSIONS, POLLUTION, CLIMATE: NOT TO WORRY PENANG, BREATHE DEEPLY

climate auto emissions 99 percent cleaner mobility

The following excellent reassuring news from ABOUT PTMP at http://bit.ly/2IlGBWs

TODAY’S CARS PRODUCE 99% LESSER POLLUTANT THAN 40 YEARS AGO?

Do you know that today’s cars produce 99% lesser pollutant than 40 years ago?

NGOs that are against the construction of good road network in Penang are spreading fear that more cars will increase air pollution.

This is unscientific and false.

Data from the Environmental Protection Agency of the US government have shown that:

> New passenger vehicles are 98-99% cleaner for most tailpipe pollutants compared to the 1960s.

> Today’s fuels are much cleaner (lead has been eliminated, and sulfur levels are more than 90% lower than they were).

As green automobile technology advances, and with reduced cost, we can expect those who can afford these vehicles will use them.

Therefore it is important to have good road network to manage the traffic flow well, while at the same time provide good public transport for others to use.

This is the foresight underlying the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP), which is also the reason why cities with good public transport system are still constructing good road network.

We appreciate NGOs that give good and scientific feedback, but not those that spread fear with false information.

Editor comment:

Now we know how much they know.

And far more disturbing, the role that the Trump administration is playing to advance their political agenda. I as an American am deeply ashamed.
